Bio
Maloney was born February 19, 1948 in Greensboro, North Carolina. She graduated from Greensboro College and in 1970 and relocated to New York City. She was elected to the New York City Council in 1982 and served as a Councilmember for ten years.
Congressional career
In 1992, Maloney was elected to the House of Representatives, upsetting a fourteen-year incumbent, moderate Republican Bill Green. Despite being heavily outspent, she rode Bill Clinton's coattails into office. She is the first woman ever to represent the district, and has been reelected six times with no significant Republican opposition.
2006 elections
In 2006, the Republicans nominated Danniel Maio to face Maloney in her November 2006 bid for reelection. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Maloney retained her seat.
