Albert Benjamin "Ben" Chandler III has been a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives for the sixth district of Kentucky since being elected in a 2004 special election.

Bio
Chandler was born September 12, 1959, in Versailles, Kentucky. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky at Lexington and became a private practice lawyer. He was State Auditor from 1991 to 1995 before he became the attorney general of Kentucky from 1999 until 2003, and was the Democratic candidate for governor in the election of 2003. He was defeated in that election by his Republican opponent, Congressman Ernie Fletcher. Fletcher resigned from Congress in order to become governor, and a special election was held for his seat in February 2004. Chandler became the Democratic candidate and won the election.
2006 elections
In 2006, the Republicans nominated Elaine Sue Carlson to face Chandler in his November 2006 bid for reelection, however Ms. Carlson dropped out of the race during the summer of 2006. The Libertarian candidate was Paul Ard. (See U.S. congressional elections in 2006) [1] Chandler retained his seat.
